Jess Elliott
Jess Elliott is a writer whose journey to mystery novels was anything but conventional. As a child, her dream was to inherit her grandparents’ farmhouse in upstate New York, set up a typewriter, and write away the hours. Though that dream was buried when the house was sold, Jess’s path led her to unexpected and fascinating places that ultimately fueled her storytelling.
A proud graduate of the University of the South (Sewanee, Tennessee), Jess ventured to New York City to break into publishing, working in publicity for W.W. Norton Inc. When the slush pile reader position she coveted was taken, she followed her best friend to Kyoto, Japan, where she taught English for three years. After a memorable stint at Florida Elks Children’s Hospital teaching K-5 students in a one-room schoolhouse, Jess spent time in the corporate world of trust banking before a downsizing prompted her to seek something more meaningful.
She asked the universe for something quirky—and was soon working as an assistant to a forensic psychologist evaluating sex offenders. The experience was challenging, enlightening, and full of dark twists, and it inspired her to return to the dream she’d buried long ago: becoming a writer.
Jess has reinvented herself once again, this time as a mystery author. With a love of intricate puzzles and a mind shaped by a unique blend of experiences, she’s crafting stories that keep readers on the edge of their seats. After all, sometimes the best mysteries are the ones life has a hand in writing.
